ICSURO participates as a partner in the Ecorkwaste project, which has funding of more than one million euros from the European Union through the LIFE program and which consists of the integrated and sustainable management of cork by-products. The project has a duration of 3 years (2015-2018) and since last September the second year has started.
Life Ecorkwaste's main objective is the valorization of the granulated cork by-product through the demonstration of technical, environmental and economic viability. On the one hand, the cork by-product at different particle sizes will be used as absorbent material in wetlands for the removal of organic compounds in a waste water treatment system. And, on the other hand, the energy potential will be enhanced through a gasification process of the different granulometries of cork.
The project coordinated by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, has the participation of the Manresa Technological Center, the Catalan Institute of Cork, the Typsa Group and INNOVI, and with the collaboration of Codorniu where the pilot test will be carried out with the installation · corking in wetlands for the treatment of waste water.
Last November 2, ICSuro hosted one of the Life Ecorkwaste coordination meetings with the presence of representatives of all the project's partners.
