Cork, present in Madrid at the "Sustainability and Wine" meeting

The Catalan Institute of Cork Foundation has taken part in the first edition of Wine and Golf, a golf tournament held in National Golf Center of Madrid which has brought together some of the main wineries in the country in an event that has linked wine and sustainability, two concepts closely linked to the world of cork.

Wineries representing the denominations of origin have participated Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Arabako Txakolí, Somontano, Toro, Vinos de la Tierra de Extremadura and some Wines of Pago.

The Institut Català del Suro Foundation has taken part in the round table of "Capacity and innovation for sustainability” explaining the sustainability of its product and sector along with Bodegas Habla, Bodegas Vivanco, Emilio Moro, Enate i Marquis of Cáceres. In addition, ICSuro has also collaborated with the event through the production of sustainable trophies made of cork that have been given at the end of the event to the winners of the tournament.

The director of ICSuro, Albert Hereu has claimed cork as "the most sustainable material in the world" and as a local product that can help reduce the carbon footprint of the wine bottle.

Study on the environmental sustainability of DOs

The Wine and Golf was the stage for the presentation of the study "Environmental Sustainability of Wine Denominations of Origin in Spain", a research driven by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food with the collaboration of Spanish Confederation of Wine Regulatory Councils which wants to mark the challenges and future steps of the sector in the field of sustainability.
