The 7th Tap and Cork Fair is presented in a sunset among corks

This Tuesday saw the presentation of the seventh edition of the Tap and Cork Fair in Cassà de la Selva. The event, at the La Talaia space, was attended and supported by the Institut Català del Suro Foundation, represented by its president Joan J. Puig.

Eloi Madrià spoke about cork, as a peeler and connoisseur of the technique and the environment, the Gavarres. The weather has not allowed the demonstration of peeling, one of the star activities of the fair, which can be done both on Saturday and Sunday morning in Can Vilallonga.

The programming

The mayor, Pau Presas, and the councilor for Economic Promotion, Àlex Font, have made the institutional presentation of the 7th edition of the Fira del Tap i el Suro. The councilor highlighted this year's novelties "the program of activities on Paseo Vilaret will begin on Friday evening with a tasting of craft beers and the return of the Cassanenc group "La Troupe" in concert, extending the scheduled activities from two to three days.

Another novelty of this edition is to introduce a corkscrew professional to each tasting/pairing to explain to us the particularity of each bottle cap that is opened, an action that will give relevance to the cork.

It has also been incorporated, apart from everything related to cork and wineries that will be in the area of the promenade fair, about thirty stalls of handicrafts, jewellery, food, etc. in Plaça de la Coma; with the intention of widening the base of the fair and looking for this corridor between Coma and Paseo to give the fair a wider dimension."

This year's fair program features ten wine, sparkling or beer tastings, wine pairings, concerts, family activities, informative talks, tasting space on Paseig Vilaret, in addition to thirty craft stalls, which this year we will also find in Plaça de la Coma.

The cork tradition will be the protagonist in the space of the old taper on Passeig Vilaret, also at the traditional popular dinner of the old tapers with tavern songs, Xic-Chec in addition to the cork peeling demonstration and the breakfast of peelers in Can Vilallonga. The program offers more than forty activities related to the world of cork, which start tomorrow with visits to the cork factories in Cassà and will end on Sunday evening in Paseo Vilaret with the closing concert of the Tutti Veus choir from Cassà.

Tasting of Free Winemakers

Finally, journalist Ruth Troyano conducted a dialogue and wine tasting with Vinyataires Lliures, an initiative that vindicates the work of small wineries in a guild that hosts sixty-eight wineries in Catalonia. In this case, Talcomraja wineries, Cellers de Madremanya, Somni d'Istiu and La Gutina have contributed to the dialogue and presented their wines.

The event was attended by around fifty people related to the world of cork, cork companies, institutions and entities that represent the sector, as well as professionals from wine tourism and the world of wine, creators of digital content, that spread the culture of cork and wine on social networks.
