PROPOSALS TO THE NEW WINE LAW

Last Tuesday, July 23, 2019, the president of the Institut Català del Suro, Joan J. Puig, the member of the board of trustees of the foundation Guillermo Genover and the director Albert Hereu presented proposals for modification to the Parliamentary Committee that manages the new wine law.

Below we set out our proposals for the modification of the new wine law (in italics):

Presentation of reasons
The vineyard and wine sector is of key importance in Catalonia, both in the production of wine and in its elaboration, and is one of the engines of the Catalan economy and auxiliary economies as deeply rooted in Catalonia as industry of manufacturing corks.

Art. 3 Definitions
Denominations of Origin and Qualified Denominations of Origin cover them bottles preferably with corks.

Cork stopper: cork obtained from natural cork, agglomerated cork or cork microagglomerate with a minimum cork content of 75% by mass, consisting of one or more pieces, intended to ensure the perfect preservation of the bottles of still or sparkling wine.

Article 24, Terms and conditions of protected designations of origin
The terms and conditions must contain [...] the type of cover to be used
preferred form

Art. 33 Purposes and functions (of the DO management bodies)
Manage the input and output control system of raw materials and products from the processing facilities, storage, covering, ageing, bottling and labeling registered.

These proposals were well received by parliamentarians, awaiting final approval by the Commission.
