ICSURO HOSTS THE MEETING OF THE AENOR “WOOD AND CORCHO” SUB-COMMITTEE WITH THE PRESENCE OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE ENTIRE VALUE CHAIN OF THE CORK AND WINE SECTOR IN SPAIN

As part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of this institution, the first annual meeting of this Subcommittee of which ICSuro holds the Secretariat was held.

The Catalan Cork Institute has held the secretariat of this Subcommittee since 1995 and has been responsible for defining the parameters to be controlled and the specifications of cork products so that manufacturers and users obtain a product with the maximum guarantees sanitary and standardization for industrial use. This work is of particular relevance for the final consumer of wines and cavas covered with cork compared to other types of closures, since the standardization task guarantees the quality of the closures.

This meeting, held on February 8, was attended by representatives of the Spanish Association of Standardization and Certification (AENOR), Asociación d'Empresaris Surers de Catalunya (AECORK), Representatives of companies that manufacture corks, Catalan Association of Winemakers (ACE), Center for Scientific and Technological Research of Extremadura (CICYTEX), National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA-CIFOR), Catalan Wine Cluster (INNOVI), Wineries com I remember, Towers, Juvé and Camps i quail, University of Córdoba i Polytechnic University of Madrid.

In the course of the meeting, the expansion of the members of the Subcommittee was approved and progress was made in the preparation of technical specifications for sampling standards, vocabulary, analytics and guarantee of sustainability of cork caps (carbon footprint ) both at national level (UNE standards) and at international level (ISO standards). The next meeting is scheduled for November in Madrid.

Albert Hereu, Director of the ICSuro and Secretary of the "Madera and Cork" Subcommittee of AENOR comments: "It is important to highlight that this Catalan and Spanish standardization work is the reference for the creation of covering standards at an international level".

In the ICSuro 2014-2020 Strategic Plan, standardization becomes a fundamental element for consumer protection and the promotion of cork products. That is why in this new stage the Institute will be working, from the leadership in the "Wood and Cork" Subcommittee of AENOR, in supporting the industry and consumers to guarantee the maintenance of the highest standards of excellence. lence of corks.
