Last Tuesday, November 21, 2017, our R + D + I colleague, the biologist Maria Verdum, gave a master class via webinar to the students of theIndustrial Design Engineering of the University of god, as part of the subject's program Methodology and Creativity, taught by Dr. Rodrigo Martinez.
This masterclass is part of the set of actions planned within the framework of theCollaboration Agreement between the University of Deusto, the Catalan Institute of Cork (ICSuro), the Catalunya Sugar Business Association (AECORK) and the European Network of Sugar Territories (RETECORK).
For the final work of the subject, students must carry out a product or prototype with cork, taking advantage of the many qualities of cork (100% recyclable, natural and sustainable, insulating, elastic...) as well as the different presentations and formats in which this material can be found: from cork boards directly extracted from the tree to the reuse of wine and sparkling corks, utilization of burnt cork, crushed cork that is not used in the manufacture of corks, laminated cork .. .
The goal of Dr. Martínez is that these projects can be exhibited at the fair Habitat 2019, in Valencia, so the topic for the students is Products for the habitat and home.
From the Institut Català del Suro, we encourage students to present their project to us 2018 Innovation Award, we will publish the bases soon.
The master class taught by Maria Verdum consisted of explaining to the students the technical qualities of cork as a material, as well as showing them some examples ofinnovative applications.
