FUTURECORK presents a new educational tool to disseminate knowledge about cork

Coinciding with the start of the new school year, the state forest bioeconomy project FUTURECORK presents some educational toolkits innovators who bring knowledge about cork to the educational and professional field.

With the shape of an acorn and a design designed to capture attention and spark interest, these exclusive toolkits offer a immersive experience around a natural, reusable and sustainable 100% material.

The toolkits FUTURECORK are educational resources with their own entity, designed to offer a tangible and participatory experience around the world of cork. Articulated into six main areas -cork peel, cork manufacturing, material properties, aromas, agglomerates and new applications-, they allow you to explore this material from diverse and real perspectives. Although they can complement the thematic presentations developed within the framework of the project, the toolkits They are designed to function autonomously and facilitate discovery, reflection and direct experimentation with cork.

The kits include physical elements that exemplify the properties of cork and its life cycle, facilitating live demonstrations that generate reflection and promote sustainability and innovation.

The objectives

The development of the toolkits responds to several strategic objectives:

  • To promote cork as a natural product, of great versatility and proximity.
  • To convey interest in Mediterranean forests and cork oak forests.

the project

The FUTURECORK project is a transformative project that seeks to adapt and optimize the state cork sector to the current and future ecological, economic and social situation. The project has five research and action axes that aim to transform the sector by increasing the resilience of cork forests to climate change and fires, reduce the depopulation of rural areas through professionalization, entrepreneurship and diversification of the sector; increase the added value of the cork chain, as well as dignify forestry work through communication and awareness-raising.

FUTURECORK has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, and has a global budget of 1,400,000 euros.
