The cork-wine union with the FEV is reaffirmed

The Spanish wine and cork sectors have strengthened their natural alliance by means of a visit by the members of the Executive Commission of the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) to the cork municipality of Cassà de la Selva (Gironès) to learn first-hand the process of peeling cork and the innovations launched in recent years in cork industry.

theAssociation of Catalan Sugar Entrepreneurs (AECORK) and the Catalan Institute of Cork Foundation (ICSuro) have been the hosts of this visit to the factory producing corks for sparkling wines Francisco Oller, SA and the cork of Can Vilallonga to see in situ the traditional cork cam process, in addition to an institutional dinner between the Executive Commission of the FEV and the board of directors of AECORK and the ICSuro to exchange impressions, knowledge and synergies about the indissoluble present and future of the two sectors, which also share the commitment to sustainability, quality and innovation specified in the agreement signed between both entities in 2021.

Joan J. Puig, president of AECORK and the ICSuro Foundation, believes that with this evening "we were able to demonstrate to the FEV the enormous work of the cork sector to produce quality corks and with the maximum technical guarantees to cork the best wines, contribute to their positive evolution and take care of the planet".

On behalf of the FEV, the general director, Jose Luis Benitez, has thanked the hospitality of AECORK and the ICSuro i has highlighted the natural link between both sectors, especially in fundamental issues for wineries such as sustainability and eco-design, which are increasingly playing a more important role in the company's strategy.

The Institut Català del Suro Foundation is a private non-profit foundation whose mission is to promote the entire value chain of the cork sector. It was established in 1991 as a public-private consortium and since 2019 has been working as a foundation to become a world reference in cork research.
